OPENING
A meeting of the Ocean Grove Community Association (OGCA) was held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 in the Camp Meeting Community Room, 28 Pilgrim Pathway, Ocean Grove. The meeting was called to order by OGCA Board Member Barbara Burns at 10:04 am. The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by recognition of special guests and announcements.
- James Manning has started work as the new Neptune Township Business Administrator and he has committed to being our Guest Speaker in July.
- The Neptune School budget, with a 2% increase, was approved by the Board of Education.
- The Neptune Township Budget is expected to remain steady.
- Saturday May 30 is the annual Flea Market
- The Historical Society’s August House Tour is looking for volunteer houses. Contact the Historical Society if you are willing to show your home.
- The OGCA Summer Breakfast with elected officials will be on August 22 in the Olin Street Firehouse.
- The OGCA Community Block Party is set for August 30. It now has as additional sponsors both Neptune Township and the Jersey Shore Arts Center.
- Nominations for OCGA officers (4 positions) and Board Trustee (1 position) will be accepted at the June meeting, with the election being held in July. Note that to vote in the July election members must have their dues paid in full by June 30.
- Joyce again reminded everyone that the OGCA website has a very comprehensive and invaluable calendar that lists almost every upcoming event in Ocean Grove – The OGCA Calendar
GUEST SPEAKER
Phillip Orton, Research Associate Professor of ocean engineering at the Stevens Institute of Technology, discussed rising sea levels, climate change and beach replenishment. Philip provided a brief CV and spoke of previous visits to the OGCA over the past 10 years. He presented information on historical storms that have affected the New Jersey shore. His excellent slides provided forecast information. On a positive note, Philip Ocean said that Grove homes range from 10’-25’ above sea level which will protect them from short term rising sea levels. Numerous questions followed.
BUSINESS MEETING
Committee Reports
- Giving Committee chair Paul Kaplan that the May eyeglass campaign still has a few remaining days. June’s campaign will be to collect diapers, and in July there will be 2 volunteer events – more information coming at the June meeting.
- Preservation Committee chair Ron Goldfaden observed that great strides have been made in town with house improvements but that several properties still need attention. He also reported on the sponsored Home Repair Program which may offer financial support for home owners who cannot afford to pay for necessary improvements.
- Membership Committee chair Robert Ingato reported on the emerging efforts of the Committee in developing a welcome packet for new residents to Ocean Grove. Also, work on the Community Block Party is progressing well.
- Green Committee chair Philip Orton spoke about current issues in OG with particular focus on garbage collection and lack of recycling.
