November 2025

OPENING

A meeting of the Ocean Grove Community Association (OGCA) was held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 in the Camp Meeting Community Room, 28 Pilgrim Pathway, Ocean Grove. The meeting was called to order by OGCA President Joyce Klein at 10:01 am. The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by recognition of special guests and announcements.

  • Joyce announced that the Annual OGCA Holiday breakfast would be on Saturday morning, December 6, 2025 at 9:00am at the Jersey Shore Arts Center. In what is becoming a Holiday tradition, the Neptune High School a cappella group Scarlet Sound will join us again to sing Holiday selections.
  • Considering the huge impact that the 2025 Neptune School budget had on our property taxes, Joyce advised that a new Task Force is being formed to look ahead to school budgeting in 2026 that will include members of the Board of Education, Neptune Township officials, and community representatives. The first meeting is planned for January, with further details pending.
  • A Neptune Township police officer gave us recommendations for staying safe during the Holidays, and provided an update on the speed reader results in Ocean Grove on Broadway and Main Avenue. Information will be posted on the OGCA website.

GUEST SPEAKER

Matt Clark, the Monmouth County Tax Administrator, presented a comprehensive review of the tax assessment process.  He discussed the Monmouth County Equalized Valuation system and its benefits in representing more proportionate tax liability.  He did mention that the ratio of assessed to true value of property was 90% in Monmouth County.  A very length Q & A period followed.  Matt’s Powerpoint presentation will be on the OGCA website.

BUSINESS MEETING

Committee Reports

  • Giving Committee chair Paul Kaplan reported that the response for the Volunteer Reading Program has been overwhelming with 150 volunteers stepping forward.  Also, the November food drive received a huge response in contributions.  In December, the Giving Committee drive will be a collection of men’s Hygiene items which will be collected at the December Holiday Breakfast. He gave a huge thanks to everyone who has supported the Giving Committee in 2025.
  • Barbara Burns, chair of the Legal Committee, made available a handout on “how to appeal your property valuation.”  It, too, will be posted on the OGCA on the website.

CLOSING

The meeting adjourned at 11:56 am. Respectfully submitted by Theresa Checki, Secretary of the OGCA.
